Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is breastmilk jewelry?
A. Breastmilk jewelry is uniquely made pieces created with your own milk, custom designed to your preferences; no two pieces are the same. The milk is treated with a preserving agent, mixed with epoxy resin, and cast into a beautiful stone set in your chosen setting. Although we refer to it as “breastmilk” jewelry, it works equally well to use formula! You can even order one without any breastmilk or formula in it, if you simply love the look of our jewelry. Some mamas that no longer have stored milk to use have jewelry made without milk to represent that time together.
Q. Will my jewelry look exactly like the picture?
A. Every piece of hand-made custom jewelry will be completely unique. While we do add in a whitening pigment to assist with making the stones “pop”, each mother’s milk can differ in thickness and colour creating a slightly different hue. Please note that, as with all handmade items, tiny imperfections are to be expected and are part of the charm. Every Mama is unique and her jewelry will reflect that.
Q. Does milk need to be fresh/frozen? Will it go bad in the mail?
A. Milk does not need to be fresh or even recent! Milk from the back of your freezer from years ago works just fine as well! We request that you thaw the milk before sending to prevent any condensation on the packaging. Once thawed, milk can last for days without going bad, especially for these purposes! Even if the milk turned before it was received we would still be able to use it to create beautiful pieces.
Q. Do I get any leftover milk back?
A. No, leftover breastmilk or formula will not be returned to you. We preserve and store it for up to 12 months in case you wish to order additional pieces. Before placing your second or subsequent order, please email info@loveexpressedjewelry.ca to enquire whether we still have any of your milk from your first order available.
Q. How much milk do I send and how?
A.
STEP ONE
Place your order.
STEP TWO
Please label both the initial milk bag as well as the outside bag with the following information
-
- Order Number
- Name of Purchaser
- Email Address
- Phone number
- Item(s) Purchased
STEP THREE
Breastmilk: Place at least 15ml (1/2 ounce) of thawed (not frozen) breast milk in a small breast milk bag. Expired and/or frozen milk is fine as long is it is room temperature when shipped to prevent condensation inside the shipping package. Breastmilk must be completely thawed before shipping. Please place this bag into a second milk bag and then that into a ziplock bag (or similar). Triple bagging should help prevent any spillage during transit. Place this into a small shipping bag/box of your choice. Please ensure the air is pushed from the bag before closing to prevent it from “popping” in transit.
Formula: Place 1 scoop of powdered formula inside of a sealed ziplock bag and then into a second sealed ziplock bag to prevent leaks. Place this into a small shipping bag/box of your choice. Please ensure the air is pushed from the bag before closing to prevent it from “popping” in transit.
